Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil
Composition - You needed a little more of a plan for this one. I'm not saying you couldn't pull this off, but this one needs some help. I'm not really sure what you were trying to show here. I would say its the cheese judging by the title. I think you should've shown more of that, but not from so close! Give it some room to move a little. The actual composition of the pic is pretty weak, but I want to look at the technical part of it first. I may or may not come back to this section.
(cont.) The background of this picture is way way busy. It should be simple and neat.
Technical - I think the biggest problem is the focus. I think that stems from being too close to your subject. The camera can't focus if you are that close, or apparently that close because of the zoom. Looks like the flash fired judging by the reflections on the spoon though I am not positive. I would hesitate to use the flash, especially on something this close. The colors do look okay, so that's good.
Overall - aesthetically not a strong picture, although its making me crave nachos, and not very well taken. I'd say turn off the flash from this close, back up a little, and try to take the photo from the direction where the background is minimized. Your camera will take some very nice pics. I bought my wife one in Oct. 2002. Good luck to you and keep shooting. - Bob

Yeah, it's a little liquidy. But, the focus is off, the lighting is pretty harsh, and the background is "messy". Nice capture on the steam though! 3 |

the lighting on this is very harsh, and there are strange shapes/reflections above the spoon, as well, much of it is out of focus, perhaps you were too close to the subject or should have used a macro function/lens? Just a few ideas! Keep shooting! :) |

You can fin this extract at: //www.tpub.com/photography1/ph20972.htm
To make the most of any subject, you must understand the basic principles of composition. The way you arrange the elements of a scene within a picture, catch the viewer's attention, please the eye, or make a clear statement are all qualities of good composition. By developing photographic composition skills, you can produce photographs that suggest movement, life, depth, shape, and form, recreating the impact of the original scene.
How are photographic composition skills developed? You look, you study, you practice. Every time you take a picture, look all around within the viewfinder. Consider the way each element will be recorded and how it relates to the overall composition.
Good luck in future submission |

There's a distracting reflection on the tile, and I think it's a bit too close-up on the spoon, a bit too much light on it too. The idea is not a bad one but I think the composition suffers from a too-distracting background in general. |

Interesting as we see this morph from solid to liquid - the lighting is very harsh and too direct and the background has nothing to do with the actual picture. |

An interesting liquid, but nothing is in focus. Your background is terrible! If you wanted this picture to work, I think you should have put a lot of thought into what was visible in the background. The spoon is too harshly lit. I like the vapour that is rising above the spoon... maybe this could have been enhanced more. 4 |

This would be an excellent topic for a challenge (cheese), since a lot of shots on this site are halfway there already. Good use of curtains in supporting role. The strong lighting brings it all home! |

I think if you could have minimized the background clutter, this would have been a better shot. I think I would have liked to see the front rather than the back of the spoon too. Great idea though. I don't think anyone else did cheese! |
