This shot was taken from the middle of Lake Taupo Forest, which is on the eastern shores of Lake Taupo in the middle of the North Island of New Zealand. At the time I was working in the forestry area and saw a great sunset coming down, I had to really fly to find a high point where I could get the views of the mountain.
Mt Ruapehu is a popular ski resort area in N.Z and for those interested
nearby you have the spectacular Tongariro Crossing, an alpine trekking route, awesome scenery, awesome park, which is rated as a world heritage park
I do have some photos taken a couple of years back of the "crossing" which i will locate and put up for viewers |

| Eeeeeeeeee. . . .this is so beautiful it hurts to look at it too long. I gave it a 10 when the challenge was going on. . .now I'm blown away that somehow it ended up with a score of 5.8! WHAT were people thinking! Shame on them! You should have gotten the score your commenters gave you! That is more appropriate for this photo!!! |

| Nice shot... It seems every time I'm up that way the top is clouded in these days.. Although when we lived at Waiuru Dad took some amazing photos of the cetral plains and mountains.. (I was a bit young way back then..) |

| What day was this, I spent all Saturday afternoon and drove right around the mountain starting at Waiouru then out through Ohakune, National park, turangi and back along the desert Road ending up on the Tukino Ski field access road at sunset (bloody cold) I was at the complete wrong angle for the sunset as I had no idea where it would go down, so none of my shots work as well as this so I entered a completly different one - 7 |

| Very nice, there are a few blown out highlights. Interesting coloration to the sky. I love the "layered" effect. |

| Now that's a nice view! I wish we had mountains in my corner of the world. one reservation I have with this image is that the sky and ground seem to overpower the mountain. |
