Thanks to all who liked my picture. I know it does not have the image quality we all would have liked but alas this is what we get.

Taken in Canoga Park area of Southern California, about 8 hours after one of these big wildfires hit. I think I got lucky with this shot (timing). I was trying for it but there were all these trees in my way and I was zoomed in 12x. I have a few other shots I would have liked to use but alas I am resigning myself to this one. It seems more action packed and the other photos were of the sky. After the challenge I will post a few in a forum to see what people think. This submitted photo does not have the cripness I would have liked but alas I do like this one the best(kind of).

Increased Saturation
Curves
USM’ed the water drop to highlight it
When I USM’ed the whole pic it made it too grainy for my tastes

Resave with lesser Image Quality Option

Resubmit

My guess is I will get a slightly higher than 5 on this one with plenty of lovers and plenty of haters.

I love this shot :) I see that the noise levels frustrated you. I use a free download called Noiseware that might help, if you're interested.

Great action shot and while it may not be "DPC pretty", it has substance to it and a story to go with it. Having lived in soCal more than once, I can appreciate the eerie beauty and staggering fear that such a sight can produce.

Most intriguing. There is a little noise but the colors are so moving and the helicopter's silhoutte is so perfect against the terrain. Great depth is evident as the eyes lift from the bottom of the frame. An outstanding capture and composition. 9

Contrast looks wrong here. Very dramatic shot though! - PS Curves will fix it (A lot of noise/grain as well)

While not as sharp as others, for obvious reasons, I still like this one, partly due to the difficulty and danger of the shot location but it also makes me stop and think. Any photo that does that I rate highly

Very unusual and rare capture I'm sure. A little grainy.
