Another snap of my FiL whom i love to death.
I had said goodbye to him at 1pm and he was sitting right there whittling. Dropped back by his house at 7pm and the only thing that had changed was the size of the pile at his feet.
I don't expect folks that haven't spent time in 'the south' to understand how this fits the challenge, but to those who have, an old man whittling all day long is more descriptive and definitive of this "corner of the world" than any landmark or building will ever be.
Camera battery died prompt after taking one photo. I am kind of disapointed that i didn't get to wait until he had the cedar back in his left hand and whittling on his right, but he had just lit his cig (tsk) and being a kentucky ol' boy the cig came first.

Played around with the D&B on the barn.
Had to desat June a little because he was looking too tanned next to the barn (which has naturally weathered that grey)
little crop and resize.

I'm very pleased to have placed in the 85th percentile with a human portrait (top scoring one ;p) in a challenge very much geared towards landscapes and scenic photographs.
Very impressed with the openess of the voters in this challenge. Not to meantion impressed with the quality of the entries! Good for us all!!

I like this photo on so many levels. The allegory is very moving. Isn't it interesting that the environment including the ground seems to be slitly 'wittered away" also. I keep coming back to this photograph and like it more and more. Thanks for sharing. Everything is so crisp and clear. I wish I could get this good an image.

Nice composition. But why is my eye drawn to the cigarette in his hand?!...

great setting, very unique, i love how the bench is perfectly centered but how he is off to the side, would have worked well for rule of thirds too! great coloring in the wood. 8

I like this alot. The figure of the man makes and grounds the shot. I like the tonality and his skin tones against the gray of the boards. Nicely done. Maybe a touch out of focus on him, but the overall composition and lighting is good.

I feel it needs better focus and sharpnes on the whittler. Good idea
