If I look back through photos I took 20yrs ago, there are images in there of high contrast construction objects. Sometimes they look ike what they are, other times they look totally abstract. Big shapes with big imact, they come from buildings or objects - its the light and dark impact that seems to matter. Having said that, I've yet to take one of these I am totally satisfied with.
About 10km from our house we have a place where I can explore this photographic fetish. It's a railway steam museum. They have several working engines, others in restoration and a graveyard of parts. I played in the graveyard for this shot.
Once again its the light early in the morning or late in the day that makes photography so dramatic. This was about an hour before sunset, I loved the play of light on the teeth of the cog showing up the scale of this thing (it's bigger in diameter than I am tal)
Nothing special about this image I don't think, it's an exercise in exploration more than anything. Trying to show keywords like old, heavy, abandoned, massive, solid, everlasting, useful.
