This figure is made from the left and right antlers from a small deer rack. I sawed them off of their main stems and joined them back together with a steel pin, so that I could swivel them to find just the right "pose". The "sash" is a piece of ribbon from my wife's sewing box, and it covers the joint. I also drilled into the bottom of the one supporting "leg" of the figure and inserted a very small pin, which extends down into the base (a piece of firewood approximately 6" in diameter). The base is draped with a blue cloth, which also extends up behind the figure as a backdrop.

This shot was taken around 7:15 PM, and the sun was going down. This setting sun became my main source of light, coming in primarily from slightly behind and to the left. I also used a very small flashlight with a red filter, playing it over the figure from the right during the 4 second exposure.

I took almost 40 shots, varying the lighting and the angle. As the sun set I had to adjust the lighting accordingly with indoor lights. But after working with 4 or 5 of the best shots on the computer, I chose this one, which happens to be the very first shot I took!

VERY well thought out and extremely impressive. Had I been around to vote on this one, I would have given it a 9 for sure.

Edit to add ... I would have expected this in the top 10 at least ...

Well done captures the sense of dance perfectly. The ribbon I feel is a bit muchand can distract from the sculptures form.

I think it does capture a "dance" well. I had it at a 6, but I'm bumping to a 7.

Very elegant. Would have like to see a slightly closer up shot to minimize the blue folds.

Good lighting. The pink ribbon is a nice touch. I'd give the dancer more negatie space and not have it dead center like a bulls eye.
