Okay, here's the little story here: I get home from work, and hop on the computer, and there is this little guy sitting there. (came from my daughter's dinner that night) I don't know who he is, but I think he's kinda neat. I had been wanting to do some shooting, so I thought, ok, he'll do, and I've been wanting to try a little painting with light, so there I went.
I was trying out different stuff in his hands, tried a pencil, battery, just stuff, I grabbed the cig and tried it and it all came together in my mind. You see, I'm a smoker, but a frustrated smoker with a desire to quit, I keep trying and will succeed sooner or later. I hate being a slave to cigs, and I thought this image kind of says that, you know, a voodoo witch doctor type dude offering up a cig...you think?
Then added the rock and the gourd that were laying around on shelves for ambience :-) Set it up, turned out the lights and used a 10 sec exposure and 'painted' with a small flashlight.
I know, it's kind of cheesy :-), but I kind of like it, I think it grows on you, try checking it out again later.
Anyways, that's my story and I'm sticking to it :-P
I actually really like this shot. Technically I think its a little bit weird just becasue of the lighting, but the composition and his expression are the main focus of it anyways. I think it works really well.
