Challenge: Reflections Without Mirrors II (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Sony DSC-P10
Location: crystal city, va
Date: Oct 12, 2005
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 320
Galleries: Still Life, Food and Drink

Taken on my mahogany table - a still life of candles, a glass of wine, and a painting as a back drop. I noticed the reflection of it and decided to capture that as well.

Nice set up but it's blurred.

I like it.

A difficult one. It sounds like you went to a lot of effort to set up your shot and you got an interesting result. Is it the worst picture here? Definately not. People expect clear, sharp pictures. YOu have a great range of nice soft tones and the red color gives it a focal point. I think it would stand better as a part of a set of images than it does by itself. If you want the abstract, maybe just include a better hint of what the subject is. Even just the bottom edge of something. You will get a lot of negative "blury out of focus" comments on a picture like this, but decide yourself if they are valid or not. To score high here, you need a clear, coloful shot that tells the story in one easy to decipher image. They don't like ones that make them think or examine it more closely, although these are usually the more interesting sorts of pictures. The other ones if you saw them in a magazine or newspaper you would go "nice picture" and turn the page. Pictures like yours require more effort on the viewer's part.

cool...kind of like an abstract painting...

I looks like a reflection, but I can't tell for sure because the image is so fuzzy -- either out of focus or distorted by the reflecting surface. I can't tell if its the latter, because you've cropped so tightly. I'd like to see what the surface is in shots like this.

I have to wonder what you are trying to do here.

Your title tells me what this is, but the overall quality of the photo is so blurred, that it's difficult for me to ascertain the images...except the candle flame. Therefore I have given this a low score.

too blurry..

Meets the challenge as a reflection, but doesn't have a lot of visual impact for me, I'm afraid. It's a little too abstract for my taste without being able to see what is being reflected.

Nice soft effect and color tones, but the image is too confused.

Ooooh - erm - how do I put it...

I THINK it is the reflection of the titled items in a table right? I hasn't worked very well. I can only just make out the objects. it looks more like an abstract... Sorry...

Sorry just a blur to me. Can't offer anymore than that because I can't see from the pic what you were trying to do

' through a glass darkly'... but off a coffee table maybe too darkly, it is original just too 'blurred' for me

This is horribly blurry.

You know this may be a brown ribbon winner here. If I was a betting man I am sure it will be close.

I know what it is and you have done a nice job. I wonder though, what would it have looked like with the actual items not cropped off? It just seems that maybe even a part of the items to help tell the story might be a good idea. Just my opinion though.

What is this picture?

I wish it had a smidgen more detail. It's nice to see something a bit abstract though
