Date Uploaded: Oct 20, 2005

Lens: 105mm F/2.8 D

I wanted to take an image that would complement the "Grain" challenge. I thought that the grain would add to the atmosphere of this dark industrial photo, portraying Global Pollution.

Gotta say I like the message but the shot does not jump out at me. Still, nice processsing.

The grain and B&W give this a very ominous feel

Is this a thatcloudthere pic? Seems like his flavor of political statement. The grain is nice in this picture. The exposure and techicals are also good. I think it's just the subject (not the political message) that keeps it from a 8-10, but still a 7

7 - Good use of the grain/effect for this shot in the Challenge. Do not like the 'forced title' (agenda/political/etc). 'Dirty scene', for which the grain works well. Criticism; besides the title (and I have chosen to disregard it), I think that the 'smoke' billowing emphasized more, somehow, would have really made this shot have more impact. Perhaps a slightly sharper (ground up) angle may have also made this better in my opinion. Perhaps a tighter crop/different angle, if possible, especially as that 'swirly tower' on the right adds interest, and pairs well with the 'shape' of the smoke, etc.

the power lines are too over-whelming and distracting IMO.

This is such a powerful and emotional image; grain is a difficult thing to add to an image without ruining it, but the addition of grain works wonders here. Excellent capture!

I like the overall image and the grain does add to the feel but the dodge/burn is a little crude.

Great shot. I like the softness and muted gray/sepia. Nice.
