David,
Nice black & white! I think in this case, black & white was a good choice with the high contrast. Those two elements bring out the motion going on in this photograph.
Having said that, there are some obvious areas for improvement that I can see, one of which is that the contrast is so high, almost all of the whites are completely blown out, draining detail from even the runner in who is in focus, and while I think you've done a sufficient job of drawing the eye to the guy with the ball, there is quite a bit going on. Generally, sports shots contain fewer players so that there is no confusion as to what the focal point should be. I do like the composition, but it is a bit confusing.
Nice job, though. I think a little more detail would help the score.

You captured a good sense of motion - more so than image grain - in my not so experienced opinion. The whites seem really bright and I find it keeps pulling my eyes to #32 and thereby ignoring the rest of your image. |

This is a terrific football image. All of the explosive movement, the violent impact, and even the suggestion of the noise; it's all there! The fact that you have managed to reserve your focus only for the ball carrier is a stunning achievement ... I cannot imagine how you did that so convincingly (there must be some post-processing involved, but whatever you did, it's seamless). And of course you didn't overdo the grain - just enough for a 'documentary' impact. This photograph gets better the longer I look at it! One of my all-time favourite sports images. 10 |

This is great action shot. I don't know that it particularly needs grain... but I like it. Everything is pulling your eye over the image toward the right until you crash into the body-block taking place on that border. nice one. |

awesome pan focus to isolate the action. I used to love shooting sports (especially football) for my school paper, but never got a chance to do something more artsy with it, which is what I think you've achieved here, with the grain really providing that 'gritty' feel of the game. |

I think a grainy football shot could work, but I would like it better if the players were in focus and the grain used to enhance the atmospehre. |

Really captures the movement and action. The grain gives it a nice grittiness. Nice shot. |
