I'll throw in my 2-cents. Just a bit heavy on the grain. Reminds me of television before cable TV.

I think I get what you were trying to do, but IMHO you went overboard with the grain.

I think this shot has more grain than any other I've seen in the challenge so far. For that, congratulations. It is a push beyond the norm, and that doesn't mean that the shot doesn't work. I think that the noise here is a bit strong considering the subject, but that doesn't mean that this amount of noise would be bad given another subject. Since the noise makes this scene more harsh, it is in contrast to the soft colors and lines of the sunset. Maybe that is a good contrast...I can't say for sure. This does provide a very painted feel to the shot, and the loss of detail is fine for that. While I don't expect this shot to do well in the realm of this challenge, that does not mean that it is a bad shot or a bad style. It is just different. And, in so doing, it has held my attention, and I'm sure that of a few others, for a good while - which is more than 99% of the other photos in the challenge can say.

I think that the grain is a bit overdone.

Well, you definately met the grainy criteria. I bet this was a great sunset. Nice shot.

Wow, I love the idea. The border is a little much for me, but great choice on the shot itself.

Though you depicted grain in this image, I find the colors to be very distracting. I can see this image doing well with a filter of mosaic or crackled or even stained glass.

The overall effect is nice, although the grain does not ad as much as the rest of the process that gave this picture its earthy tonality. The only change I would make is t ensure that the grain was the same colour as its surrounding environment. That is the problem of digital grain that is not present in film grain.

the border is too over powering here...(no marks deducted for border though :) )

Wow, looks like this was a nice picture but a bit too much noise. It really distorts and doesn't add to it.

Nice setting, but just a little too much noise.

This looks like what could have been a really lovely sunset shot. But the grain effect here is overpowering and instead of enhancing the image, has spoiled it IMO. Would like to see the original take when challenge is over.

Noise isn't all that attractive especially when applied to the extreme. One way to make it more pleasing is to copy the background layer, apply a Gaussian blur and then blend the layers with colour. This converts the noise to black and white making it more like film grain.

Applying a little less noise and using the Gaussian blur technique could have made this image work. As it is I feel it's been over done.

I think this would have been better with less noise.

well, that kind of came out as noise instead of grain. Try copying the layer to a new one (if you can use layers) and then add grain, desaturate (black/white) and then apply the layer in blending mode on screen/hardlight/softlight or something, and changing the opacity to 50% or so. a couple of passes with the add noise, will make it more chunky.

In my personal opinion, grain does not work well in a shot like this one. I'm sure its a lovely and strong simple color photo though. I can't interpret how the grain creates strength here.

A little overdone in my opinion. The border doesn't help...again, just my opinion.

Noise, not grain...

Way overdone for my personal taste...sorry.
