Location: Manchester M.E.N. Arena, Manchester, UK
Date: Oct 20, 2005
Aperture: f4.0
ISO: 1600
Shutter: 1/320
Galleries: Abstract, Sports
Date Uploaded: Oct 23, 2005

1)Converted to grayscale
2)couple of small details cloned out such as seating numbers in large numbers on the back wall
3)Noise Added a few times until grain looked good at 640 pixels
brightened up as once saved seemed to come out darker than in photoshop

Image shot at the LG Action Sports Championship, there was only myself and a couple of other photographers there on media day and we got to kinda boss the pro's around asking them to do stunts for us on the vert ramp and street course, after meeting the president of LG and several of the athlete's this was one of the shots on the vert ramp of Neal Hendrix which I feel really uses the B&W grain effect quite well - don't know if its a contender or not by I sure as heck enjoyed shooting it...

Whoa. . .what a cool photo. Such a great stop action. I bet he would love to have a framed copy of this.

This is a nice photo. However, It leaves me wondering whether or not the grain really enhanced the image. To me, grain works best in photos that are dark, contrasty or moody, or to provide an "aged" look. This seems to me like a good image that had grain added to it for a contest, rather than an image that was enhanced by the use of grain. Keep shooting! :)

Very muddy image. Nice stop motion, though.

I don't think the grain adds any meaning to this picture. Perhaps taken at an outdoor skatepark at night it would work better.

B&w colour needs a bit of work. Contrast seems pretty lacking.

Composition is good, and you've got the action very nicely frozen. I'm seeing an appropriate amount of grain; overall, it meets the challenge. However, I'd really like to see this either a) with considerably more contrast, or b) with some colour. Actually, some wild contrast AND colour would look pretty great, too :) As it is, your subject and background are kind of battling each other for attention - and this is a better shot than that! Good luck, this is a nice action capture.
