shot with a borrowed 50mm f1.4 nikor lense
now i am buying it, lol.

raw adjustments-
shadows
contrast&brightness
also change of WB
slight vignette

PS adjustments-
masked person
convert to B&W via channel mixer
curves to person only
made new layer of person only and changed to overlay, then blended the opasity.....
(i feel cheep but i knew i would want the shot both with and with out noise so i took it at ISO 200) and added film grain using the artistic "film grain" filter in PS.....(its just a good shot both ways i did want to take it with noise and regrette being stuck with it that way only)
boardered by enlarging the canvis....
-end of editing-

not sure what i'm going to call it still but i will need to come up with something fast

thanks for all the views, votes, and comments

btw go white sox 2 to zip we go to texas ( oh yeah :OP )

Greetings from the Critique Club

Very strong portrait image and the background makes the title fit in all ways by helping your subject appear very strong.

Your lighting and lens and or filter selection for this were well done as you have very minimal reflection in the glasses.

As for meeting the challenge I think you needed to add more grain to this. I do see some grain in the background but your subject just seems to have very little grain on him.

As I said this is a very strong portrait and you captured the person well here.

Very appealing photograph of an interesting subject. It's the kind of 'real life' portrait that is so much more memorable and powerful than all that artfully posed crap. The grain is subtle, but sufficient for your purpose. Nice work. 8

Interesting portrait and well done in black and white. Good control of reflection in the glasses. However, I just don't see image grain in the photo.

I think that the background should help explain why this man has true grit. To me, it just seems to be a picture of a man.
