 OK. I'm not a gardener. I bought this mandevilla because it was pretty and I thought I'd get some nice flower shots. I have nursed it over the summer and it has made it to October with no incidents! I am a novice photographer and am still experimenting with my camera. Honestly, I have no idea how I got this shot, but when I went outside around 2 p.m. I noticed how the sun was shining down on top of this bloom. When I took the photo, I was trying to blur out the background which was a kid washing a car in the background two backyards over and as I was trying to focus in on the flower, the background ''turned black''!! I still don't know how I got it, or if I will ever be able to do it again, so here is my submission. Be easy on me please, this is my FIRST-EVER submission!

Nice presentation of the flower. The detail is good the lighting works well and you have a lot of potential with macros and flowers.

I do think you could improve on this in two different ways cropping being the first get rid of that leaf it just distracts when you have white and black. Second try different angles on that flower.

Best wishes on your future enteries and don't give up that was a nice first entry.

I love the light, but can't see any white background. I think the leaf could be cropped out to improve the composition, cos its a lovely shot, despite the lack of white background

I originally scored this low because it shows up so dark on my crappy old monitor viewed it on my good calibrated montior and it's lovely, I like your inter of light on white. Sorry about the orig low score - bump to 9

The challenge asked for light on a white background. This is a nice shot but I am not sure that it meets the challenge.

This is a beautiful image. The petals look very delicate and they are nicely exposed. I hope it is not a narrow interpretation on my part, but I would rather have seen this on a white background - that actually appears white in the image. Still, I give it a 6
