Thanks all for the comments and score. As someone (and my wife later pointed out), it's actually a mortar and pestle.
There were a few different versions. It was either dark with detail or light lacking the detail. That's why it looks soft. It was actually taken at f8, so it shouldn't be soft.

Great shadow. The focus seems a touch soft. Good use of negative space. Would make a nice stock photo. |

very nice work. subject is a little boring in comparison with some of the others and it isn't my favorite, but it is very well done as far as light balance and composition. |

Its a mortar and pestle, not a crucible, but since the only fault is with the title... |
