Flower head in half-filled glass of water. The glass has a kind of pattern on it, which I thought would create some interesting light reflections to give an added dimension. Light seems to have captured the green of the flower stem and "enflared" it onto the glass surface, creating the illusion of a flame! Source of lighting comes from the window just behind and to one side (the right). Glass was propped on a brown, square, glass bottle which in turn was on top of the black tiled surface. I used a black top/blouse for a backdrop. The camera was hand held, using manual settings and manual focus. Just some regrets that the 'green flamed' area of glass doesn't sit a bit lower down in the overall image - but would probably not be easy to reproduce on another composition.
Very little editing - just basic editing.
Rotate 90 deg CW. Slight de-skew, curves, USM and crop.

Water shots take a lot of attention to detail to make "perfect". There are bubbles and water marks above and below the water line. If you really want to hit these shots, you need to avoid those (it can be hard). I think the ultimately let's this picture down.

Great Picture. I love the rich color and the black background brings it out nicely.

Neat concept. I've been looking at it for a few moments now. For me, I wonder how this would look with the stem of the glass completely cropped off. I tried it with my hand and liked it better, but that's just me.

very interesting image with the fire and water appearing in and behind the glass. i wish this image were scaled smaller so that it was easier to view for voting...but it's a neat shot! the only think that's kind of distracting for me are the air bubbles in the bottom of the vase.

I understand your title, but don't like the image. why is the flower under the water, but for the challenge sake?

I like the idea, great observation. There are a couple of small patches in the lower left that are a little unnecessary.
