Way to go Brad. The fact that you admit you like this more than many of your ribbon shots speaks volumes about art and your personality. Thanks for taking a risk with this. I always love to see great photographers get low scores. What a rush! |

I gave it a 7 so I'm glad to know I'm in select but very good company. |

the problem I see with this photo is the background. It is right at a spot that makes viewer an unpleasing dizzy feeling. either blurier or sharper should have made it a better image to my eyes. Idea is good though. I actually did some similar shots for this challenge too. At the end, I did not pick either of them. I got the same problem as you do, to make the birds sharper, I need a fair shutter speed, to make the background blurry enough to not make people dizzy, I need a slow speed. the cap is wide. unless...maybe...eagles? Just my 2 cents, you can ignore me, I never win a ribbon anyway. |

This was one for me really.
I really liked the grouping of the birds and then brought out the colors to give it a painted look.
I guess I see something in this many/most don't, and like this one a lot more than many/most of my ribbon pics. |

I really get the feel of the motion in this. It's really cool. I just look at, and feel like the birds are moving in front of me. Yes, it is slightly blurred, but that's what it's supposed to look like. :) Definitely was given too low of an overall score. |

Yo, Brad. I was checking this out due to your posting of your score in a thread, and thought I'd add an observation: you say "4.207 ?? That says to me it did not meet the challenge. I am confused."
I don't agree; I think this was seen by most as meeting the challenge, I don't think that's an issue here. But it's a pretty unremarkable picture, in my honest opinion. If you look at the composition organically, it seems muddy and disorganized altogether. It might work better if the brids were sharper, crisper, stood out more, but really it's just sort of dysfunctional to me. I understand what youw ere after here 'cuz I've done a BUNCH of flocking-birds pics in the last few weeks, and not one of them is worth posting up.

Thanks Jason.
When I first read through that and saw I realize that with a lot of my entries. And that was largely due to your words I gasped for a second. Then realized it was a compliment, not a blame - LOL.
The Tamron? I would be happy if it were twice the price.
AF times are fast, it's quiet and a very sharp piece of glass. |

Hiya Brad,
I voted this a 5, I thought it met the challenge. Its a good photo but for me it just lacks alot of interest. I feel its a little heavy on the right side with amount of birds. HTH |

Very impressionist but I think it had the feel of the photo being out of focus. And only close examination of a few of the birds reveal that you were tracking on the birds.
Hey we hit or miss...
Also, I think that you've been taken a lot of photos for yourself. As such they don't have as broad appeal. I realize that with a lot of my entries. And that was largely due to your words.
I really count you as one of a handful who have helped form me as a photographer. THanks!

PS - Did you ever get the PM I sent you? Was curious how you like the 28-75 f/2.8 Tamrom |
