We took the kids to the Toronto Zoo on October 30, 2005. A cloudy autumn day is a great time of year to go to the zoo in our climate. There are fewer crowds, the light is great for photography, the autumn colours make for great backgrounds, and some of the mammals are more active than they are in the heat of the summer. I was shooting portraits of two cheetahs stretched out on a hill, with the camera set accordingly, when this one suddenly dashed off. I kept shooting, without changing my settings. I was glad to find out about this contest, which justifies the result.

Converted from RAW using RawShooter; exposure pushed, and curves used to adjust contrast. Curves used in PS for additional contrast adjustment. Sharpened, resized, converted to JPEG, sharpened again.

I really like the painterly effect in this photo. My only complaint - you cut off the ear and the tail.

This is nice but the cat is blurry along with the background and it might have been nicer is he were more clear.

I appreciate what you were going for with this shot. I'm sure you didn't have the opportunity to shoot many frames of this magnificent creature in motion, so please take my comments with a pinch of salt. For my taste, there is a little TOO much motion - I would have liked to see more of the cat in sharper focus and maybe just his legs moving - in other words a slightly faster shutter speed. Good shot, nonetheless.

6 - Hmm, odd. The more I look at it though the more I like the potential. Criticism; difficult as no idea how you did it or what else you had to work with but, no cropping of the cheetah, and if more definition wasn't possible, then perhaps a little more contrast/vivid coloring.

just too blurry for my taste, and the way it is done makes it look as if the cat was added to a different background
