Overall this is a really nice still life photo, the composition is good and the use of black and white works well. Now in all honesty though it is far to bright for a low key photo. Darkening the entire image would have made it work well, cause you already have some shadowing its just to bright for this challenge.
Your focus is very good and strong and makes the photo work, it just didn't work with this challenge.

i think a detail of this tool without the book and with some more contrast and darker background would look a lot better. this seems a little cluttered, and also mostly filled with grays and not a lot of contrast.4. |

I like this set up, but cannot get myself to call it a low key photo. Seems like a black and white shot in my opinion. |

I l ike the unique idea of this still life, and find your arrangement very satisfying. The low key adds a feeling of sad nostalgia to me, as if these skills and tools and way of life are fading into the darkness of memory and history. |
