I'm not very good with portraits, but it looks as though your meter was being fooled. Does your camera allow you to override the exposure? I think offcentered and tighter compositions are always better for portraits. That would also eliminate that stick out of the head look from the newer fence plank in the background. |

Looks like you might have done just a little too much contrast addition and then used Neat Image, which spread the "overexposure" on the face out even more.
I bet the original shows more detail in the face, right? Obviously, with a little guy like this, you'll NEVER get the opportunity to reshoot this exact shot, so I would try to redo the processing and keep some more detail, if I were you. If you need to eliminate noise, I recommend Imagenomic's Community Edition (Free) over Neat Image because it lets you select the type of noise you want to filter and leaves more detail.

Nice capture, two things IMO, only, child looks a bit too "posed" and the shot is too centered. Love the fall colors for the background, nicely composed and good depth to the photo, very nice overall.
