Okay, before you all come back and say, OMG! I did NOT hurt my kids for this shot, those marks under their eyes are from the burn tool, LOL! :)

Okay, what I did

No cropping, as is out of camera
Layer
Gaussian blur
Soft light at about 60% opacity
merged
burned around the edges
layer
soft light again
merged
curves
burned eyes and hand (with the tool, not in real life!)
resized for web and there you have it

It's to show that kids who are abused think they are at a dead end, they have no choice in life, that no one cares. This is so not true, there are always choices and kids need to be informed as early as possible.

They're not really trapped. They could easily escape by going around the tree trunk! Great expressions though. Especially on the younger girl. Nice angle and composition. Blown-out sky at the top of the image is a bit distracting.

This is scary. To me it would have seemed more of a dead end without the light areas on the right. Looks like the girls could run through the water up to whatever those windows lead to. Or maybe leave the water but get rid of the windows. An angle without showing the fence would be better for me too. I like their expressions and that the older girl is trying to protect the younger one. I like the post processing too. (I gotta learn to do that) Oh, and the lower part of the mans pants seem a little bright for the rest of the photo.

Definately holds my attention and keeps me looking for other things I might have missed. It also makes me want to finish the story. Either with an AK47 or learning that man is actually a kind stranger who delivers them safely home. :)

i can definitely appreciate the fear here but it seems a little staged. the older girl 's look is perfect though - protective yet scared. 6

Wow what a disturbing shot. I have to say the older girl looks the splitting image of my daughter!! Scary, this is going to give me nightmares as I have lost contact with her. A very real problem in this day and age. Good luck.

Nice concept, a little too much saturation, darkness.

This is terrifying and brings out big emotions in me, being the mother of a daughter and the fear this envokes. It's very well done.....looks like a scene from a movie.

This looks too contrived. It might have been better without the man at the left.

The looks on the faces of the female models make this feel more like a high school play than a genuinely tense situation. Obscuring the model's faces may have let the strength of the situation shine through. The bright areas along the top and right edges of the frame lead my eyes away from the intended subject. Since this was an advanced editing challenge selectively darkening these areas would have been allowed, and probably would have improved the image.

I like the concept but I'm not too crazy about the saturation, though I'm not sure how I would approach it either. Good Luck.
