My husband's black Kenilworth tenor saxophone against a black backdrop (black poster board).. existing light in the living room. Burning, a bit of cloning, a bit of light rendering in a section of the background.
I then had to actually lighten it a bit because .. even though low key .. it was actually too dark when I posted it to the web. :(
I hope the brass accents don't look too funky now.

Karen,

I didn't get to vote on thi challenge but I really like your photograph and think it should have done better. Your husband has a very nice looking saxophone. I am certain he must be very talented to own such a handsome woodwind instrument.

This takes a second to click in to what it is. I like how the dark tones suggest Soul. perhaps a different point of view would clue us in more that this is a sax--including more keys, for instance, or just panning a little wider?

this has the makings of a really interesting shot. so many great surfaces and curves and highlights, but this image is really dark. i'd really love to see the lighting and contrast kicked up a notch to really bring out the subtleties of the instrument. 6.

The composition/arrangement of bits is very muddled, to the point where (a) the eye has nowhere to settle, and (b) one almsot has no idea what the hell it's meant to be or do.

Is it a ... saxophone? Maybe?
