One of the many subjects I photographed while out for a drive around 10pm. The lighting effects really drew me to this particular image. The light was provided by an AA mag-light and some flanell cloth.

This particular animal, the cane-toad (Bufo marinus) Is a pest in Australia, and a common sight 'splattered' on roads. This particular animal was very close (or just past) death, I feel the consuming darkness captures this moment well. Giving the effect that darkness is creeping over the dying animal. The light source was placed 1/4in above the ground to light the face and legs, while keeping the torso in shadow.

Effective lighting and DOF to hold attention forward, I haven't yet figured out a better framing, you probably chose well.
