I agree with the prior comments. The biggest problem I saw was the busy background. I noticed you shot this with your 24-70mm lens. Perhaps if you were able use your telophoto lens go get the same shot more of background would have been thown out of focus.

I agree with Dr. Achoo -- your colors are flat and the piece of equipment doesn't stand out from the background. I was going to say that maybe if you had fooled around with depth of field, but then I noticed that you shot it at F2.8.

I don't know if you have access to Photoshop or a similar program, but it looks as if this is pretty much as it came out of the camera. I'd try pumping up the colors some, increasing the contrast, or maybe converting it to black and white.

I recognized the piece of equipment immediately. Too bad you couldn't have had Jane Fonda posing for you.

Keep on shooting.

There have been a few threads which state that photojournalism is not as valued on this site as it used to be. I think that's true. So we'll chalk a little bit of your score up to this (but not much).

I think the photo looks a little too "snapshot". By this I mean the lighting is not dramatic at all; nor the background. It looks like you shot almost exactly at noon which is a bad time for photos. This gives a very flat light and low contrast.

The title is also a bit confusing. It actually took me a minute to realize what it was referring to ("they lost" as in the war and not "they lost" as in the two people who were sitting in this piece of equipment).

Perhaps you could have tried some other perspectives for something more dramatic. From below? Along the barrels? It's hard to know what would work, but this shot is too static and ordinary.

I don't think a very good way to incorporate the theme of the challenge is to sneak the word into the title. It's a decent shot and an interesting obejct.. an ODD object - perhaps you should've entered it in that competition instead. 4
