 To practice my portraits, I'm picking portraits out of photography books and magazines and trying to duplicate what I like about the image on my own. I liked the image I based this off of (from a polo ad) because of the lighting, pose and model's black suit fading into black background. Finding a good exposure for these low key shots is interesting. I like the shot, though I only took it a few hours ago, so I still need to seperate from it to take an unbiased look.

The key light was raised to about 2 meters high and aimed at the wall 1 meter to my right. A desklamp was set 2 meters to my left to soften shadows.

I am only beginning to experiment with studio lighting, so all feedback and suggestions are welcome.

I like the self assured expression. Nice pose and the clarity is good. I agree about the glint in the eye.

Well taken. The ONLY thing I would suggest to fix is the second catch light in the left eye (right when looking at the image). I thinkt he composition and lighting otherwise is very well done.
