This is my second DPC submission (my first was two days ago in the "At Work" challenge, which I submitted because I thought the subject matter was somewhat out of the ordinary). I like this photo a lot more, so I hope it does better... although there are at least 4X as many photographs in this challenge!
Since I live in the city, I went out driving on Saturday morning to try and find something that said "Country Life" to me. I photographed farms, barns, horses, horses and barns, dirt roads, etc. After a few hours, I drove by a farm and saw somebody on a tractor. So I stopped, got up the nerve, and pulled into the farm and asked the woman on the porch if she would mind if I took some pictures of "country life".
I initially took pictures of the two guys loading hay (I think they were father and son), then I went and got pictures of the guy working out in the hay field on a tractor. When I came back, the two little girls were on the back of one of the trailers and I snapped off a couple quick shots. When I got home and looked at the pictures, wouldn't you know those were the ones I liked best?
I have no idea who these people are (I did get their address and said I'd send them a couple prints in the mail). But if it hadn't had been for this challenge, I never would have had the "nerve" to just stop and ask some total strangers if I could photograph them. So even if my submissions here don't score well, at least I'm learning more about being a "photographer", and I think that is what this site is all about.
Now if I only I had my flash on the camera for some fill... |

The only reason I can guess this one didn't do better is because there's so much going on in it. People like one thing to concentrate on. Great portrayal of country life though! |

This was one of my highest votes cast in this challenge. I thought it had country written all over it. Maybe if you had sepia toned it; that seems to be what makes winners here of late. I'm kidding of course about the sepia. It's a beautiful shot as is.

Country life in action! Well done. Holds the viewers interest, and communicates day to day life in the country perfectly. Nice colour range, and choice of subject(s). Good luck. |

this really says "country life" to me more than any other photo for the challenge. The picture itself is very good but nothing too amazing. It's a bit dull and could use some help in terms of composition, as it seems weighted to the right, and the light is a little bit harsh. Still, I'm going to give this a high score for being the best representation of the challenge ideals. Nice work. |

Lol....cute. I've worked at haying...tough, tough job! It's hot, and itchy, and pity anyone who has an allergy... You captured a very country scene...very real. Good luck! :-) |

given the title, i understand why you've included everyone, but i think there's too much going on. it'd be nice if there was one center of focus. the little girls get lost in the image. |

Great shot really depicting country life. The title is wonderful and the detail of the photo is equally good. I hope you offered these people a copy of the shot. |
