Hey, Lori--great results in a tough challenge--some interesting comments, good to read non-horse peoples' perspectives. I'm glad nobody thought your boy had a dirty spot from not understanding the medicine hat markings. Am a little surprised you didn't crop it a little tighter to the right, as in the other version I've seen, makes him "pop" more from the background. |

Awesome action of the horse. Not real fond of the underbrush though, but these things cannot always be controlled, so in accepting the photo for what it is, it seems well exposed and focused. Lighting was decent as well. Good job. |

There are two very strong horse portraits in this challenge, and I can't choose between them. This, as does this other, holds a great sense of the power of the animal, of the weight, and shape and strength of it. I like it for that - but i think your background and framing generally let the shot down otherwise: to do really well here you need to get away from that very cluttered scene. nevertheless, you've captured a lot more than a trite sunset, which makes this far more interesting than most shots. |

The thumbnail does no justice. What a sculpted creature this is, the eye is piercing. Great capture of movement.Good luck with this equestrian study. |

I love the tone on tone quality of this image. The horse is tack sharp and the stop motion is well done. All of the dry brush is a tad distracting, but given the situation, you did well with the landscape. I like that single twig in front of his hind quarters. I wish you could have panned back to create more of a sense of movement through the field. Just a thought. |

I love this shot. As an aside I think if you photoshopped a horn on his head you'd have a brilliant unicorn/fantasy shot (good stock photo to!) |

Wow, what a shot. The foilage really help contrast the horse with the snowy background - if you planned it that way, smart thinking! Great DOF and action. That white eye is pretty ugly though. :-) <8> |

7 - Like this, but think it has more potential. Criticism; apologies in advance if wrong, but seems it needs a slight nudge rotation up on the left, but very difficult to tell. This is an obvious opportune shot and you've captured it quite well, I just 'wish' the perspective/angle were even sharper, creating more of an 'impact' or 'movement' feel (hard to explain). You seem to have gained a good control of the contrast with all the whites, so suggesting anything there is again difficult. Perhaps just 'somehow' a different crop, not sure, just something to try to 'lift' this horse up and 'out' of the shot - if that makes sense. |
