Another choice I had for Free Study but felt it might have been less appreciated and the slight blur would be too much to stomach for voters. In fact it was initially taken for the Garbage challenge too.

The forlorn rose petal was taken through a small iron grill trap of a drain. In fact, the fuzzy light border is the grill taken with intentional movement of the camera when I snapped. Now don't ask me why there was less blur on the rose itself 'coz there were actually on other similar shots. This was the sharpest I could find and that's when the idea hit upon me to have a go at making it look like a picture card. Main thing was a square crop to use the grill as a natural border and experimenting with curves. The rest was just adjustment of levels, colour, saturation, sharpening and added filter for that little shine.

'3/4' - maybe, the quality is not there. I see the idea/concept, but the 'blur', etc takes too much from this. The 'grill' perhaps has potential, but overall this shot has a 'harsh' feel to it in my opinion, especially given your subject, which to be honest I did not 'note' until I read your title/comments re the rose petals.

i like it. very interesting composition. one knock - flash distracts as ittakes away the eyes from the main subject.
