Tried to get snail to come out of shell - would not cooperate. This is unfortunately as close I could get with an A20.

Nice take on the idea.
Sometimes you can make a good point by showing the opposite of the topic.

I think it would have more impact if the shot was tighter; maybe moving the snail between the man's head and the horse's head and tightening up the shot would yield no lettering and just the images of the 3 'contestants'. The snail and the man/horse pair.

Good idea, and good thinking. I don't think this works. The snail is lost on the paper. The grass is a distraction and doesn't really add to the shot. There is a great deal of white area....a void of space doing nothing for the photo. A different composition..?..the snail closer to the racer...tighter crop. You just tried to include too much. I'm guilty of doing the same. I give you high marks for effort and creative thinking.
