post-challenge: goodness, I sure was underwhelmed with the performance here. Thank you to Lesley, Tiffany, Judy, and all the others who understood what I was doing--it seems there were far less of you than I thought there would be.

In this image, I see four distinct patterns:

(1) habitual pattern of coffee (or tea) drinking
(2) color pattern on the mug
(3) paisley in the background
(4) print on the bandanna

... and if one really wanted to be thorough, I think you could count the greyness of the beard, the direction of hair growth, and the wrinkles in the neck, all of which form in specific patterns for specific reasons. But the first four are the primary ones.

from a technical perspective, I think the only flaw is the hot spot on the mug - so I don't think people docked me points for technical errors - they just must not have understood my purpose. arg, I'm not communicating again.

What a rip. Don't people know pattern when they see it? I stand by my 8 vote - I love it.

The lighting, textures and DOF are outstanding on this picture - I'm just not sure it's what the voting public will see as "pattern". I like it though!

I think this would have worked better against a solid background.
