Yawn. I'm sorry. I had to. It would be unAmerican (certainly unTexan) to have a 30-day pictorial of San Antonio without a picture of our Alamo. I actually find the whole Alamo thing kind of boring (sorry). But I did think it photographed nicely at night :)

In case anyone doesn't know, this is where the Mexican Army soundly defeated the Texas Army who was fighting for Texas' independence from Mexico in 1836. BUT. . .because the Mexican Army was pre-occupied and worn out from the battle, it allowed some time for Texas to gather its wits about it, and put an army together that came back a couple of months later and won Texas' independence.

And now, that old old building that was an old army fort sits right in the middle of hustling downtown San Antonio.

I personally love going to Alamo Plaza, but I prefer photographing kids playing with the pigeons, or old old shop owners whose lined faces and hard lives tell amazing stories in their eyes. That's just me. . .but you can't have 30 days of San Antonio without the Alamo. You just can't. So here. Now, its done :)

You're right, it does make a great night shot. The night certainly highlights the texture in the building.

Beautiful Sandy. I love the two people off to the right. Such a historic place - with the night lighting, it almost has an ethereal quality. It stands like a golden memorial to those who died fighting Santa Ana's army. WOW - I dig it.

I was hoping we would get to see this. Love that you chose to do a night shot. The lighting is perfect and the detail in the building is excellent.

Even way up here in North-Eastern Canada I recognized the Alamo (doesn't hurt that they showed it on American Idol last week, LOL). Lovely night photo of it.

You had to do this. I for one, would have been disappointed if you didn't. Plus you did an excellent job on it. Two things struck me when I visited it years ago. First, it was a lot smaller than I thought. Second, I loved the unabashed patriotism that they show there. They don't even try to give the mexican point of view. This is different than some of the places in virginia.

A beautifully and perfectly lit shot.
I've heard of the Alamo, but wasn't too familiar with the history (I am English after all!), so thanks for the lesson and lovely picture to go with it.
