::: Greetings from Critique Club :::
Hi, as requested, here is an indepth critique of your submission.
First Impression - the most important one:
Interesting... wild colors.. but maybe a bit more forward lighting is needed.
Composition:
Centered, it's ok. I'm not real fond of dead center compositions. I like photos that play with the rule of thirds more.
Subject:
Subject is strong and definitely stands out clearly from the background.
Technical (Colour, focus, and light):
FocusL Sharp and crisp.
Light: AS I stated earlier, you perhaps need more lighting from the front. What you end up with is a slightly under-exposed Santa with blown high-lights around the edges with this lighting setup.
Colour: Not sure why, perhaps WB issues with multiple light sources, but the blues in the beard and coat bottom are disturbing to me.
To grow its vote?:
Well, I can start b saying that DPC voters aren't real fond of "doll" shots. So, generally they don't score real well.
Summary:
Was a good effort, I believe you are capable of more, especially after seeing that wonderful waterdrop shot (btw, DPC love water drops).
Hope to see more from you soon,
Leroy |

very interesting picture. although the subject is a bit strange, and not in a negative way, i think it is the best example of back lighting. nice work. |

This shot is OK, but I think that the figurine's materials are upseting the balance you want here. |

The lighting is great on this photo, but the subject is something else. Not because it is santa, but because it is a nick-nack and therefor uninteresting to me. However, I'll bet if this photo was used to sell this santa statue on e-bay, you'd get more than your asking price! |

Something about it seems over the top. Not sure. I can see your definite backlighting, but it seems like too much light. Maybe adjusting to half or even quarter power (that is if you used strobes) would have given this a nicer less harsh light. Just my thoughts. |

I saw this browsing through the entries at first. I am still convinced santa will haunt my dreams. :)
I like how the backlighting resembles headlights in foggy weather. |
