Thanks to all that wrote a comment. I purposely used a small photo to hide all the distractions floating in the water. Of course, I didn't realize some people were using huge monitors. The hippo must have looked very small... My bad.

In retrospect, I should have known a cute photo would not do well. But hey, at least I didn't get last place!!

Regards,

Andre

Very fun photo. Your composition and the expression on the hippo are great. Nice work in tough shooting conditions (through glass & water) as well. You should definitely take advantage of the full 640pixel size that DPC allows for challenge submissions, as this shot is showing up really small on my 19" monitor at 1280x1024 resolution. Also play with the levels and curves in post processing to help create more contrast and emphasize detail in your subject (shooting through water lends itself to soft/low contrast photos). Just my opinion, nice shot nonetheless. Good luck!

This could be excellent if it were bigger and I could evaluate more of the actual image quality. As it is, it's too small to really get an idea of the sharpness and the color doesn't make enough of an impact.

this is a good shot, but not for this challenge and it's too small.

Cute picture but not sure how well it fits the challenge.

Is this an underwater shot or shot through glass? Might explain the lack of contrast, sharpness and overall muddiness in color. I suggest adjusting levels and curves, applying a bit of sharpening, and resizing to a larger size (~600 pixels on the long edge) for more impact.

GO BIGGER :) and you will see a bigger score, take full advantage of the 640 size. Generous 6 for a cool picture, but could have scored much higher if I could see more.
