POST CONTEST:
Madion is doing fine and due home tomorrow. For those who did not like the shot or were disturbed by it, I am sorry but this is life. We have no control and I was trying to convey that.
I am glad that this explanation can not be seen till the voting is over. Don't want any sympathy votes.
The young man is my 24 year old son, Adam. The young lady is my 22 year old Daughter in Law, Amber. The child is my first grandchild, Madison Jami Ann, born January 9, 2005 at 12:17 am. She was full term.
The only reason I am using this photo is that I was just told that she is going to be fine and will be released on Monday.
Madison had complications during birth and in this photo she had a collapsed lung, aspiration of amniotic fluid during birth and retarded liver function. I am told that it is not uncommon for a child to have one of these events because no birth is perfect. All three obviously triples the odds that this would not turn out the way we wanted.
As she was being born the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck and when she took her first breath, she held it due to the pressure of the cord. Mom pushed at the same time and this caused one of her lugs to pop, like a balloon. Something they tell me is unavoidable, if the timing is wrong, and should heal on its own.
She is improving daily.
The photo depicts Madison on a breathing tube, with a chest catheter and a helicopter nurse trying to soothe her. My son and daughter in law are being asked to sign papers to allow her transport and treatment by the helicopter crew who were to take her to Tampa General Hospital, one of the best hospitals in the state. By ground, 90 minutes, by chopper, 12 minutes. I truly believe this saved her life.
Anyway I was limited on the photos and locations of them this week. The backlight was there and this photograph just jumped out at me after I downloaded the group of photos I took that day.
This is not for score, this is for me.

Ok, if this shot doesn't touch people who view it, something is wrong. I know those are very strong words but I will stand by them. So the shot is not technically sound but under those circumstances I know I would not have done anything different. I'm happy to learn that your granddaughter is now healthy. Great shot. |

Wow, was searching for "paper tubes" on the site, and this popped up. Absolutely heart wrenching. Was simply hard to swallow for a moment. One of the most honestly powerful shots I have seen on this site.
Good job and God bless. I hope that Madison is doing well. |

Glad to hear that Madison is going to be going home. Frightening, no doubt, for all involved. |

This shot upsets me and I think this moment in their lives does not need to be judged or scored. So I did not vote. |

There's "too much" in this picture imo.. I don't know what to focus on - the doctor's hands, the baby, the couple, the hoses, or the pen and form? (Yes, I see that your focus is on the baby). Also, the subject, which I guess is the baby as it's in focus, isn't very backlit. |
