Magazine for the homeless whice sells in the United Kingdom, Africa & Australia. The magazine gives the homeless people a chance to earn money for food and lodgings and possibly set up banks with the Co-Op banks in the UK for there future ( If they are strong willed enough to help themselves ). I got this picture in my head when the challenge was announced and although not entirely candid I got similar results to what I wanted to acheive.

I didn't want to go with the standard one face in focus as I am about trying to develop my ideas more this year and take risks where possible to get some edge, I do hope that others see the angle I'm trying to attack with this one as I heard one of the 'Big Issue' vendors earlir last year in Cambridge repeating "Big Issue - Makes you invisible" as most people walk on by ignoring the homeless rather than easliy saying no thank you or not today. With the shot I wanted to convey that for once these guys should be the ones that are not invisible to reverse that role and demostrate how arrogant the public are towards a society that has helped put some of them out of homes etc... Anyhow off my soap box.

I get the imprssion that submitting this is a risk and will get the DNMC or subject out of focus comments but seeing as I wanted to take it like this I'm going to stand strong and see what the public thinks to it :0)

Seems strange dont it that although the image that finsihed in 6th place used the exact same sort of technique yet better executed that mine finsihed at the opposite end of the spectrum here... ho hum lets keep trying (Funny thing is admitting to it not being candid either - this to me was to develop your skills and stepping out of your comfort zones)

Thanks for the comments folks and yeah its good to try something different or think outside of the box but still try and keep it within the guidelines as much as possible.

Love the idea behind this and makes a nice partner to my "Invisible Man" submission last year.

I see here an isolation from moving subjects by long exposure. Strictly, DOF isolation was a requirement for this contest. In case of this picture, I don't think that the shadows of the moving people, the reflection in the glass, the column growing out of the head of the main subject, and the defaced woman in the background, add anything to the composition.

love the framing and sense of movement.

Wow, assume this was a long exposure and one guy stayed still long enough to be pretty sharp. I like the creativity. My only suggestion for improvement would have been to move so that the subject was between the red tag and the blue/green support.
