This is a wildfire that was started in the mountains near my home. The fire as of today is only 5% in controlled. It was started by some dumb guy. He was a transient and wanted something to eat and a place to stay the night. He started the fire near Farmington Canyon on July 10th and it quickly got out of control. He then went down to the police station and told them that he was the one that started the fire and then was arrested.
No structures have fallen in the fire. They had a ton of firetrucks up in the residential area and each one was assigned to a house and the fireman were able to protect everyones' homes. Two days after the fire it is still burning strong and they think that it will continue to burn for about a week.

I fully expected this to have a blue ribbon on it tonight. Super work, Jeremy! I like Dennis's Frodo comment, too!

If it were sharper I may have liked it better but I do like the way the fire light peeks from behind rock.

Wonderful tones. I like the darkness and the contrast of reddish light here that really communicate hot! 10

Frodo, you must throw the Ring into the fires from which it was forged.
Great shot.

Wow, where did you go to take this photo? Looks either like a bush fire or a volcano. Or is this some kind of set up photo? Can't wait to see the description on this. The effect is very successful, that's for sure. I think you 'll do well with this photo!

I keep looking at your phot to try and tell what it is thats on fire. Looks like rocks, is it a volcano? You obviously got very close to it at any rate. good capture

Love the colors on this shot, but having trouble finding a grounding point for my eyes..I still felt it had the elements for the contest.7

Very hot! I like the range of textures - the craggy rock, the flaming bright sparks, and the billowing hazy clouds of smoke. I wish there was some clue to the scale of the photo - the size might be impressive. Perhaps including more of the smoke disappearing into the black night?
