Testing out some layering techniques of textured images. I thought this particular image of a bison could be enhanced by adding layers of images.
This is my first real attempt at this technique. I was going for the appearance of dying due to neglect, rot, misuse, etc. I like the end result.
PP performed on January 23, 2006 and included multiple images, color sat, change hue, curves, exposure, dodge/burn brush, transparency brush, clone brush, sepia filter, save for web.
<--- Specs are for the base image... The additional images are just close-ups of mold, lichens, fungus, and rocks taken on January 23, 2006.
Here's a poem from one of our fellow DPCers to go with this image:
"A Dying Heritage"
A dying heritage
A dying breed
Empty plains
Tell of greed
The land once flowed
with grain and herds
Now only yields
Deadly words
Once free to roam
Now bound by death
The native's strength
Takes one last breath
No honor for beast
No wisdom to know
Of a dying heritage
For the buffalo.

very nice, your colors are great, maybe a hint red, just on the main part if thats possible. Really screams plains to me when i first saw it which doesnt make sence since there looks to be trees in the bg. The head is great for me, but I wish I could see just a glimmer of the eye. |

I love the color of this, and the texture in it's skin is sooo great. I agree that it's face is a little dark though. |

Good work Jimmy! The buffalo's face is a bit dark. Maybe adjust the levels or the opacity of the layer blend. Nice tint to it ;) |

Wow, love all the textures here. The green hues kind of throw me but adds to the "rotting" impression except that back wall. The fact that you can't make out his face really gives off the sense of death. Nicely done! |

Excellant work, only thing, I may have burned the bison very slightly or the back wall to make him stand out a tad more. Still great work. I can't use layer mask at all, so kudos to you good friend! |
