Francis Toissaint has been a true source of inspiration and the first photographer from the digital communities that captured my attention. At pbase:
//www.pbase.com/francist
you can find a large collection of his digital pictures from 2001-2003. Unfortunately he died in 2003, depriving us of the beauty of his work. This #4 issue of the pbase magazine pays tribute to Francis giving us some facts about his life.

I hope those who did not know his work alrealdy can enjoy it now.

The focus on this image is dead on! Amazing how the veins of the leaves are clearly shown and the background blur is just right ;) The leaf to the upper left could have been clones out as it doesn't really add much to the image IMHO. Great job!

This is my kind of shot, even though it is of dried leaves, I really think you have captured it at it best..... I love it.....

Thanks - another great photographer I hadn't known of before - and your work reflectes Toussaint's depth and richness of color. Very nice!

Beauty in the arridness of it all. I like the textures - your lighting is excellent.

II looked up this photographer whom I've never heard of and she only comes up as someone who exhibits on Pbase. Every bit of google info I got on her linked back to pbase. I guess she is well known in the pbase community but my understanding of this challenge extended more toward really well-known photographers---someone whose work can be seen outside the non-juried digital community perhaps, i.e, in galleries, books,and museums.

Anyway, I took a minute to browse through her stuff and I guess this kind of emmulates her close-up nature stuff. The difficulty I have is that I didn't find her work all that original or even captivating, just extremely prolific. My suggustion is you check a few collections of works by master photographers.

On its own merit, this is a nice study of texture and line, if not particularly engaging to me.
