You would not believe how long this shot took to create. My only problem with it is the sharpness, I tried everthing to sort the problem but fear that it may be down to a low end camera. Time for a new one , I guess.

Great photo! I thought this was very creative. I see what you mean about the sharpness. Wow, just think what you would be accomplishing with that new camera - Go ahead, get that new camera - treat yourself!!

Nicely done. I know it's hard to shoot by candlelight and you did it well.

this is a well done set up. I love the lighting and the colors in this image... I'm a chess fan too :) = 9 - jmsetzler

nice shot..I have a chess set identical to this one but some of the pieces got broken so I didn't use it for this challenge

Would have been better with a diffused light as opposed to candles, I think.

chess by candlelight... how cool.

Nice chess set. I really like the lighting of the pieces and the composition.

Ooooh pretty. How many shots did it take you to get the lighting right?

That's quite a chess setup you have. Good composition and a nice shot. I think it would look better without all the grain and without the right corner cut off.

That's very pretty, but I think it would be nicer if the candles weren't in shot. They're not really as ornamental as the chess set.

Haven't I seen this chess set before? Is there light coming from underneath the board? Or, How did you get the effect arround the chess pieces? Great shot, only wish - the candles were less bright, but my guess, that's impossible. NICE!!! Photo 10 Transparency 9 total 10 swash (Thank you for submitting such a wonderful piece.)

Since I don't know too much about chess I don't understand the title, but I do like the golden lighting. Good.

Love the 'light shadows' under the pieces. It seems like there's a hole in the background...something missing. Great shot though. 7

nice... : )

Too bad you couldn't have cropped the candles out of the picture. I think that would have "made" the picture for you.
07/01/2002 08:31:00 AM
Not so sure the lighting works here. Maybe having the candles hidden and just showing the chessboard (with the same light) could've worked better.

Nice shot! 9

Very nice picture. The lighting is gorgeous. The flames would have been nice with a star filter, but very nice without it anyway. 9 rkymtndream

Amazing how those look like they are lit from the bottom! Wow. Wish I had thought of using candles. Duh.
