Failed motion panning shot that turned out quite well.

Shot at Queens Park which overlooks Glasgow to the North. The hill drops off quite quicky and therefore with a little but of clever positioning this shot can be easily achieved.

My shutter speed was too fast for motion panning and closing aperture to slow the shutter made the buildings too distracting.

Cool shot!! I love it! Focus is wonderful and great vibrant expression on her face.

It always astonishes me that so many people have a gut reaction of "BAD!" to a centered subject. That's just ridiculous. In this particular shot, we're dealing with frozen motion, for example, and frozen motion = stasis, and the centrally-placed subject underscores that stasis very nicely. Besides, she's NOT dead-on-center, she's shifted a tad left and down, and this is a very good thing; almost-but-not-quite centered can be quite powerful.

But then, anyone who looks at my work will realize I do a LOT of centering or near-centering, so I guess I'm "prejudiced", eh?

IMNSHO, the Rule of Thirds is a point of departure, and off-center is not always best.

That tall smokestack in the background is pretty neat, too.

Amazing what a little crop can do! It really turned out beautifully, even though it wouldn't do for "panning". Pitty there's not a "motion freeze" challenge going on.

just a optical illusion and a slight crop

Fantastic photo! I don't mind her being centered either. With a blank paper looking at different crops you might have tried, I think centered is best.

This is a great picture. I would like to know how she got up there?
Trampoline or just running and jumping.

This is great!!! I think it might even be better this way. If you had managed to pan and thereby blur the background considerably (enough to not really see the buildings etc anymore), it would have nowhere near the same effect of "flying".
Wonderful pic!!!!
Would have liked to see some details re lens etc.

Great picture, I love it. A reall exuberant feel to it. You probably could have got a slower shutter speed by stopping down, although that would perhaps have led to the background being too much in focus. The lighting's great, too.
