When I look at your photo, my eyes are constantly drawn back to the foregroundand the high contrast fence. This takes me away from the subject of your image which is the "old farm." The wooded area is als very busy and in a way, at least for me, seems to "fight" for attention with the foreground fence.

Not B&W I don't think. This appears to be one of those cases where the mono has worked against you. The winter country colours are lovely and they enable the viewer to distinguish one tree and texture from another. Here they have all blended in together. I just look at this and wonder how beautiful the original is.
