You did a great job with this and achieved an interesting tonality with your duotones. Good deep depth of focus. I forget whether it was for country life or duotones, but I fell in love with a rake just like this, rusting in a field. I tried and tried but couldn't get a pleasing composition or processing out of it. If I'd gotten this one, I'd have gone with it for sure ;-)

This image has a nice "old" feeling to it. The subject matter is somewhat confusing, but the perspective helps bring attention to the subject matter. I don't know if you could've moved the rake or not, but if possible it might work better against a plain background maybe just have sky in the background rather than the trees. Converting to grayscale is not the most effective way to create black and white images. You may want to try the channel mixer method of converting to black and white to get a better tonal range in the final product.

Interesting subject, though it gets lost a little with the background. You picked a great tone for your duotone though, it brings out the antique and vintage flavor of your subject. Good job!

Cyndane:
Interesting that I was able to get a feeling of "abandonedness". It's in my home's front yard! :-)

Thanks everyone for the comments, especially on how to get the rake to stand out more.

I think what I like most about this is that it's not totally clear exactly what it is. The colors add an interesting aura to it as well. I like that there are only trees in the background, too. It makes me think it was abandoned somewhere. :)

I really like the subject matter! The wide crop is interesting too. Some say it's confusing, but I had no problem identifying with this photograph.

It really puts me in the mind of a forgotten farm. The trees add to the picture. The score is really undercut, but the comments hit it.

Best regards,

Rick

Interesting perspective/angle/POV and I like the subject matter. Unusual color choice as well, but one that I like a lot. The image does come across as a bit flat however - maybe increasing the contrast a bit and darkening the background would help give it some depth and make the foreground stand out a bit more? I like the greens.

This picture looks confusing, the rake doesn't really stand out.

Old farm implements are so interesting..... i can remember seeing this type in use (opps guess that ages me) this is a nicely focussed shot... sepia or even b&w might have been a better choice in tone. I have no idea if you could have shot from an agle that isolated the rake but if it was possible, it might have improved your composition.

Crop seems a little too much. I attempted move my scroll bar to look for more feels like there should be. Good use of Duotones.
