Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Duotones II (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: Glencoe
Date: Feb 18, 2006
Galleries: Landscape, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Feb 18, 2006

The Buachaille Etive Mor stands at the top of Glencoe and its craggy pinnacle of Stob Dearg can be seen towering over Rannoch Moor. (yes i was back there again, near the location of my first ribbon)

The name translates from the Gaelic as the big shepherd of Etive and reaches a height of 3345 ft.

Shot in RAW, converted to 16 bit TIFF. Crop to squarer format, Channel mixer conversion to B&W, 80% red, 20% green, Slight curves tweak, flatten to 8 bit greyscale, tried a few coloured duotones...they all killed the image so left it B&W

The colour version is sooo much better. Maybe I should keep the shot for another day?

Steve

Great stuff Steve....probably the most photographed peak in Scotland but one I`ve never had the chance to capture.

You`ve made a really good job of it.
Congrats on your high placing.

The shapes of the mountains are mimicked in the rocks and clouds. One of my favorites in the less than 50% I've voted on.

Best landscape in the challenge, no doubt. The beautiful toning and other processing have made the very best of what must have already been a very fine photograph. And the composition, with the range of alps "in miniature" in the foreground, is really outstanding. 9.

I wish there was a little more definition in the shadows, that would be pretty easy to bring out with advanced rules. Other than that, a great job.
