I think it might have been more of a WOW image if the road led into the frame, or down the middle, rather than out of it. Even so I'd have given this a 7 or so if I'd made it that far in the voting; the tones are very nice and I like your choice of subject.

A few things. 1) Blue was a tough tone to use in this challenge. I don't think you did a bad job here, but the biggest problem is blue is close to the actual sky color and therefore we keep thinking this is the real color of the sky and it doesn't work with our eyes. 2) Winter foilage is tough for a picture. The grass on the left is miserable and barren branches are tough because they quickly degrade into a jumbled mass of lines. (see the lower right where the tree behind it interferes.)

The composition is nice with the road slanting across the canvas. I think in the end there may not have been enough to hold the interest of the viewer. Note that you got 100 5s. That tells me most didn't find anything wrong with your pic, but weren't excited by it either.

Thanks all for comments and Rikki very constructive thank you.

I did see this myself of bit of an average photo, but decided to take the plunge with my first entry so I am pleased with the result and its placing.

Thanks again all for the comments and votes.

I hope you see my comment as constructive and helpful in your pursuit to improve your photos ;)

My first impression of this image is that it seems a bit oversharpened. The bare branches are a clear indication of this. While the blues create an aura of calm and coolness, it doesn't help the balance with the oversharpened branches.

The leading lines are great touch. Successful leading lines have something at the end of it to terminate the viewer's eye. I like the barren feel of this road. It's quite dynamic IMHO.

I think you picked a great subject but unfortunately, the sky wasn't being cooperative at the time. The blown highlights might have also hurt this image in my opinion.

For your first challenge, this is a great start especially in a field of over 600 entries. Keep up the good work and you too will hit pay dirt soon.

Cheers,

Rikki

Love the blue, couldn't quite find a "subject" in the picture for my eyes to focus on

Very nice composition. The use of leading lines and a vanishing point really help the tree to stand out and draw me into the image strongly. I think the blue for the duotone here really works well for the image. Great job :-)

Good use of blues, almost makes me shiver. Leading line is pretty good, tonal balance is ok but the hedge on the left is really dark. Also the image is a little soft
