POST CHALLENGE:
My thoughts about this challenge:
I really wanted to do this challenge, but I was running out of time. The photo was taken under 3 hours to the deadline.
Lighting is really bad in this room, but since the kids were home we had to do it in this room.(I didn't want the kids to see this) man I need a light kit.

With a lot of the advice that people have shared I know how I could made this a better picture. It helps a lot.

hehe and for those that noticed the U2 pic I hung for the shot. (you guys get bonus points)

I'm pleased with the comments that people left. For those of you that didn't like the content... (you guys like to hide from reality?) oh well, there was probably more Coke Whores in the 80's then guys trying to dress like Don Johnson.

LOL even though it 91st out of 101. I'm very pleased with the comments and that I finished in the lower 10% and was added to 2 favorites. :-)

I was going through all the pictures I have given a 10 and noticed that I havent commented on this one.
Just wanted to tell you that you hit the jackpot there, perfect picture and setup. Though I hate to see drugs and all that it can do to you this picture shows so much and therefore too is outstanding.

yea the idea was gr8,loved it,but i feel other people felt the same way as me as it came 91st out of 101,tell me its too bad,its not really there fault if they got into drugs,im happy !,i suspect the morjaority have felt that this was not a right pic to put up and marked it low,say the challenge was drugs this would of been in the top 10 no doubt

How did this score so low! Great concept, like the touch with the U2 pic. Not as polished as some but this should have scored way higher!

Greetings from the Critique Club...

I believe the first paragraph in your post challenge comments probably sum up your result. Drug use is also not limited or specific to any particular decade in time. You can't expect much from any particular image when it's a rush job. Every now and then you will get lucky, but you can devise a weekly challenge plan that will improve the quality of your work. You may want to try something like this:

Day 1 and 2: Brainstorm the topic and throw out the first 5 ideas you come up with. Look for a unique idea.

Day 2 and 3: Think about how you want to make your photo happen and visualize what you want it to look like.

Days 4-7: Execute your image. If it doesn't look like your visualization, keep trying.

so very sad...but has shown the truth about what a woman will do to look a certain way and weight in this world. Sad but very truthful photo.

Sorry this didn't do better. It got a five from me because it was an original idea and I liked almost candid feel. I think I would have scored it higher if it were in black and white. I think what mostly held me back was that it hasn't quite lost the feel of a set-up shot and this type of photography needs to look really raw and candid,IMO. This is just a little too clean. I just looked through a huge book of candid photos from the 80's by this one photographer and this is just the sort of thing that was in there, only his were black and white and generally grainy. Actually, many of his shots would have tanked in a DPC challenge...;D. I wish I could rememember the name of the book or at least the photographer.

Anyway, it's nice to see a fresh perspective. I'm wishing I went back and re-thunk my scoring for this. Sometimes I do that if I have time to review my voting pages.

I know its not easy with indoor lightning, but I do regret the shadow on the wall. Nice shot, a bit noisy.

I can do without viewing this sort of imagery. Sorry. 2.

Very cool and very disturbing image... Glad you left it as raw as you did as it really demonstrates a grittyness that I always associate with the 80's... good job.

I was too young to konw if this was the eighties or not! in terms of the photo, the focus could have been a little sharper and the flash glare is quite off putting. The the U2 poster behind! :)

A tighter crop to exclude the door on the left would have been better in my opinion, also the picture frame is a bit over exposed (burnt out) at the top right corner. Good idea though
