The out of focus buns are a bit off putting and the background is a bit cluttered.

Nothing seems to be in focus in this image. The appeal is unfortunately missing in this composition.

I wish you had used more DOF here. The lighting is nice. DOF is just too shallow and focused on the wrong thing. The point of interest seems to be the sandwhich, but the gloved hand is what is clearly in focus.

would have worked better for me if the focus was on the burgar, rather than the arm.

When you took this image to greyscale, what was left was a flat grey image with very little contrast and detail. Turns out being very flat. Try bumping up the contrast a bit.
