The blownout highlights were intentional to show the intensity of the sunbeam without losing detail in either the hands or the pencils.

I am EXTREMELY proud of this shot, I imposed an exposure chellenge on myself with this one, and got exactly what I invisioned in my head. Hot sunlight without losing more detail than I intended.

Shot on a schoolbus during a school fieldtrip with my son, this was a young friend slumped down in her seat, knitting using a couple of blunted pencils. I fell in love with the contrast of the sunlight on her hands and the textures in this setup, and snapped this candid before she collapsed into giggling from my attention on her with the camera. Also shot on a moving bus so getting a crisp shot in dramatic lighting was challenging.

Crop, curves, smooth, duotone, save for web.
Duotone set for Black/Pantone7507C (Warm tone to feel of warm sunlight).

The excellent tonal range really helps soften the impact of the clipped highlights in the hands. As such it's not a distraction at all. Great photo.

Wow, what a practical idea...never occurred to me to use pencils to knit. Creative. Like the light on the fingers and pencils.

Nice shot. The tight crop provides a good interest factor. The duotone works well for this image IMO.
