* Greetings from the Critique Club *

First up, I really like the subject and idea you have used here. The lone figure adds a lot of character to the photo. Well done!

What has really hurt this photo with the voters is the blown highlights both in the foreground and especially at the end of the tunnel in the background. By looking at the photo it appears to be a winter/snow landscape and with the outside light hitting that snow it's really blowing things out. It's a hard one though as I know I have had very contrasty photos like this myself and it's difficult to control that balance so as to not lose any detail in the darker areas. A tough one to work on without using a filter on your lens.

I like that the tunnel is not quite centred in your framing. Maybe you could of cropped the photo slightly tighter to remove the edge of the tunnel from both front bottom corners as they just distract slightly. Looking at the detail within the tunnel your focus looks good too.

All up, you met the challenge with your post processing but it's the blown highlights which let it down with the voters. Well done on your highest score to date though and best of luck with future challenges.

Neil

I don't know why such a striking photo didn't score higher. I gave you an 8.

What a huge contrast, may have preferred it to be a little more grayscale, but the black and white is very strong and meets the brief perfectly.

too blown out.

I would have rated this much higher, but some of the whites seem blown out.

very nice.. the background is a little over exposed though

Oh, I like this one. The symmetry is well respected except for the man standing, but this makes the picture more enjoyable. 10

Good composition, the subject make me want to see what he's looking at in the side tunnel. Backgroud a little blown out 8

i really like the theme and setting you captured here. however, the shot seems overexposed, especially prevalent in the top of the photo and the snow...

how sad for him

The light at the end of the tunnel is a little too bright. I like the composition though. Nice perspective.

The highlights seem a tad too much for my taste. I really like this composition!
