Thanks for the critique. I've learned alot from this image and the comments everyone has made, it's amazing the things you don't see until someone tells you. |

"Dreamer" is an image that does definitely meet the challenge qualifications. This was another hard challenge with 364 entries. I really do think voters start to get burned out in a challenge so big. Unfortunately I think the burn out really does effect scores sometimes.
Your shot is very nice and square. I really like how full the frame is. It is really wish the lighting had been different. It really takes away from the focus. The eye looking more like a black hole is very distracting. The focus on the whiskers is excellent. It sometimes can be so hard to use natural to get the effect you want. Maybe even a slightly different angle would allow for a better shot, lighting wise. Overall the lighting hurt the score but you a great basis and I look forward to your next challenge. |

I love the dirt on his face. It would have been better for me if I could see the right eye. |

The shallow DOF suites this image well. I think the lighting hurts it, though. |

I wish we had some detail on his right eye. On my monitor it's coming across as a black blob -- no detail at all. |

I realize you were working with natural light, but it sure would have been nice to get some light on that left eye! But you captured a lovely look on it's face and the square crop works very well for this. |

Love the subject, don't mind his dirty face, but wish I could see his left eye a little better. |

The harsh light really hurts the image, IMO. The fact that the eye closest to the camera is completely in shadow makes it hard to appeciate his cute little face. With a wildlife shot like this, I don't want to say "use a reflector" or "turn his head into the light" because that seems like silly advice. Maybe shooting when the sun is lower in the sky or in more open shade is the best strategy.
I like your tones in this image, and your focus is right on. His whiskers are nice and sharp and the bokeh in the background is very pleasant. |
