this represents the combination of whimsy and rainbow gradient layers, and is another of the many photos I shot out the window of the moving car.

To answer Judy's question:

To achieve this coloration, first I created a new, blank layer. Then I masked off all but the sky area on this blank layer. (careful masking isn't too important.) Changed the layer blending mode to Color. Then I selected the Gradient tool (from the paint bucket palette), and for my gradient, I selected the full-spectrum rainbow.

Then I just played around with it, sometimes dragging one end of the gradient way off the screen so I only got part of the spectrum, sometimes dragging it the other way so the gradient was reversed. Once I got colors I liked, I adjusted the opacity of the layer until the saturation looked good. And that was pretty much it.
